About Jeannie

Jeannie Barr is a parent, author, blogger, former mental health professional, and chronic illness advocate.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology, she has spent her life working with children, families, and individuals in moments of vulnerability and transformation.

She has worked with at-risk youth, worked within the Juvenile Justice and social services systems, taught psychology at the college and community college levels, and supported emotional well-being in countless contexts.

Jeannie also lives with chronic illness—including sixteen spinal surgeries, multiple cancers, and autoimmune and neuropathic conditions—all of which shape her work, her writing, her compassion, and her mission.

Her creative projects, Little Bun the Helper and Shaking Hands with Chronic Illness, blend storytelling, trauma healing, psychology, and lived truth. Her work creates safety, connection, and hope for families and individuals navigating chronic illness.

“After years of navigating chronic illness, parenting, rebuilding my life, and finding ways to stay connected even through the hardest seasons … I’m finally sharing something that has lived in my heart for a long time: Little Bun the Helper and Shaking Hands with Chronic Illness (SHwCI).”
